La TV aprovecha un espacio que el cine deja vacante [*]

"El cine tiene que competir con la televisión, y ahora hay tantas películas de una hora maravillosas por TV. La serie The Wire, por ejemplo. Es perfecta, no se puede competir con ella. El cine tiene que ser algo diferente, tiene que dar objetos más extraños". Así explicó el gran director francés Arnaud Desplechin por qué sus películas (como la maravillosa El primer día del resto de nuestras vidas) siempre duran más de dos horas.

Desplechin no se equivoca. The Wire, que HBO emitió entre 2002 y 2008, no sólo es excelente sino que, además, ofrece algo que Hollywood parece haber dejado de lado: riesgos. Mientras el cine industrial apenas se atreve a apostar por inversiones seguras (secuelas, remakes, adaptaciones de best sellers o videojuegos), la originalidad aparece en la pantalla chica, sobre todo a partir de guiones tan intrincados como gancheros. El masivo fenómeno de Lost, cuya sexta y última temporada podrá verse desde mañana en Argentina, es un buen ejemplo al respecto.

Desde que a principios de los noventa David Lynch le otorgó otra densidad a las series con Twin Peaks se ha recorrido un largo camino, en el que Los Soprano, Seinfeld y Six Feet Under -por nombrar sólo algunas- deberían ser mojones infranqueables. De allí que cada tanto algún intelectual, algo alucinado pero no del todo, lance aquello de que si los grandes escritores clásicos vivieran escribirían guiones para televisión. ■

Coincido totalmente con tu comentario, hoy se producen series de televisión con calidad cinematográfica y con planteos éticos y estéticos de ruptura, es cierto que no dejan de ser productos culturales para una industria pero también es cierto que algunos se la juegan como los casos que citas y yo agregaría Dexter. El cine hoy solo puede apostar a la novedad tecnológica del 3D, el resto es más de lo mismo. Saludos.

  3. Déjenme agregar, junto a The Wire y Sopranos, a la maravillosa Mad Men, en sus tres temporadas.

    Es mejor que el cine.

    Ah... y acaso un capítulo de Padre de Familia no tiene mas y mejores gags que cualquier peli cómica ?

  4. Me sumo a The Wire y a Padre de Familia (seguro es más divertida que las últimas películas de animación) Les recomiendo "In treatment" con la mejor actuación que vi de Gabriel Byrne. Es cierto que está apuntada a un unvierso finito, aquellos que banquen sesiones de terapia casi en tiempo real. La profundidad de los personajes y sus diálogos, se destacan. Saludos a todos. Pato

  5. De a poco en los comentarios van surgiendo títulos de series excelentes, como "In treatment" o "Mad men". Si nos remontamos un poco en el tiempo, agregaría que "X-Files" también marcó un hito. Y podríamos mencionar otras, como "Homicidio-La vida en las calles", el antecedente más claro de "The Wire".

    No soy experta en series, pero sí debo decir que "The Wire" me parece la mejor porque en ella encontré algo más, ese mazazo en la cabeza del que cuesta recuperarse. Una síntesis suprema de la decadencia política y moral, y por ende social, en la que estamos inmersos como "civilización".

  6. La sexta temporada de Lost ha logrado crear términos nuevos como el "flashsideway" (no sé si existía ya, creo que no)

    Coincido en que In Treatment es una de las series ineludibles a la hora de tener en cuenta la originalidad. Y los créditos iniciales de Six Feet Under rozan la perfección.
